Trail Savvy

What more could we ask for than this phenomenal weather we have been receiving here in the beautiful Okanagan! How about another trail to get out onto? This time, a family friendly one. It’s funny that I wanted to find a new, challenging hike to share with all of you and instead I ended up finding this lovely little nature-filled trail for all of you active families.

I began to drive along Union Road in Glenmore, which seemed nothing like what I had glanced at on the map; an area of nothing but forest and ponds. Clearly, it has been flourishing with new cul-de-sacs and modern neighbourhoods. I wondered if there was anything left for nature to offer us here, as there is construction in all stages in this quiet little area of Glenmore. Then I caught the trail along side the still ponds out of the corner of my eye! I quickly got us turned around to seek out where the trail began.

It is in the heart of a residential area, which I might add, is so lucky to have these ponds as a backdrop to their homes. The trail is really a quick little saunter with almost zero inclines, but is just flourishing with wildlife and vegetation! Ducks were socializing with the birds as they rested amongst the tall grass by the water, as to try and escape the heat. Turtles lounged lazily on logs and lizards sunbathed on the rocks. I instantly could imagine a family with their children walking along this path and spotting the ponds wildlife in excitement!

How fun it is to be out in the natural world while learning and exercising with your favourite people. Flowers were in bloom all alongside the walkway and the odd shadow of birds flying overhead crossed my path. It was so peaceful and serene here for a trail that is so close to housing. Even Sitka and Oscar seemed to be much calmer for such an easy hike. Which, leads me to think that this is a perfect hike to find a moment of Zen.

Though this hike may not be as difficult or as long as most, I still recommend bringing water and wearing proper attire as the hot Okanagan sun can be draining at any level of activity. Also, please be considerate of the neighbourhood. Park in designated areas and keep in mind those that live here, leash your dogs and please clean up after them!

We will be back next week with another hike that will be sure to please the more gung-ho hikers out there! There are so many hikes in our backyard that we overlook. I can’t wait to discover and share them all with you. So until next week friends, please enjoy nature responsibly and we hope you enjoy this weeks stroll as much as we did!

Much love!

Savanna and sidekicks,
Sitka & Oscar
