Mike Miltimore Needs Your Vote!

Mike Miltimore is a man who has a close connection with Kelowna and he needs our help. His father, Lee, of Lee’s Music notoriety, lives here as does his sister, Trisha. Mike is the co-owner of Lee’s Music, which has been in Kelowna for seven years, and he also studied Electronic Engineering Technology at Okanagan University College too. Now based in Kamloops, Mike is hoping his Kelowna connections will help him as he asks for our city to get behind him as he bids to win the 2012 BDC Young Entrepreneur Award. Mike has submitted his new patent-pending guitar design, named Riversong Guitars, and hopes to use the potential $100,000 winnings to launch Riversong Guitars on the market.

So what’s so special about Riversong Guitars and Mike’s new design? Well, the new design fixes long standing acoustic guitar issues such as those surrounding tuning and tension as the guitar necks are solid and can be completely removed eliminating the need for structural bracing. Moreover, construction time has been slashed from 100 hours to just 24 hours. This makes costs lower and these guitars are therefore cheaper for the end user. That’s good for music and musicians! In addition, the new design makes repair easier, less time consuming and ultimately cheaper to perform. As Mike says: “all acoustic guitars suffer from the same problems. We have the cure!” Not only that, Mike and his team pledge to use Canadian products wherever possible, the result being a high quality homegrown product to be proud of. However, to roll this design out across North America, Mike needs votes. At the time of writing, Mike sits at number two in the vote count, and he needs our help to reach number one. You can vote for Mike here: https://www.bdcyoungentrepreneuraward.ca/profile_2.php

Voting ends on June 19th and the winner will be announced on June 25th, so if you want Mike to win, make sure you vote as soon as possible! You are allowed to vote once per day.

There’s one more thing I want to share about Mike Miltimore. When I spoke with him, it became apparent to me that he is a man who truly cares about music and musicians. For instance, he’s using his newfound popularity to try and promote emerging artists by posting videos of them playing a Riversong guitar on YouTube. Here’s an example:

Eventually, Mike wants to turn this into a series of coffee shop sessions and hopes to even move the practice to Kelowna. Of course, winning this competition will be good for Mike, but it’ll be good for BC music too, so make sure you vote before June 19th.
