Bottles and Burgers to Help Local Charity

If you're cleaning out the garage this Saturday and want to do some good
with those bottles and cans you've amassed, a local charity is hoping to
make some change with them - literally.

"We're holding a bottle drive at 1157 Sutherland on Saturday between 9am and
noon" explains Tara Tschritter, shelter coordinator at Inn from the Cold
Kelowna. "The money raised will help us change people's lives

The non-profit registered charity has been particularly hard hit from recent
federal government funding cuts. "We relied heavily on government grants to
help the homeless in Kelowna. As of April 1, 2012, those funds were cut
dramatically, and are no longer available to fund shelter operations".

Fortunately, the group enjoys tremendous volunteer support and has
martialled these volunteers - some of whom are past and present guests - to
hold a bottle drive in the shelter parking lot, located across from Extra
Foods. This is part of their "Push to End Homelessness" fundraiser, which
will see pledge raising groups push brightly decorated shopping carts in a
scavenger hunt through downtown Kelowna, finishing in City Park.

"We're inviting everyone to a BBQ celebration in City Park at noon on
Saturday to learn more about what we can all do to help put an end to
homelessness in Kelowna", says Tschritter. "Sysco Foods and Sun-Rype have
donated burgers and beverages, so for a $5 donation, people can have lunch
and all proceeds will go to supporting the homeless in Kelowna". The day
promises to be a fun family event with live music provided by the Malarkeys
and a prize giveaway for groups participating in the "Push".
