Here it is! The middle of summer and its really hot!! To celebrate the middle of summer we are having a show that is different than anything else we have ever had. Abstraction! We are presenting Byron Johnstad, a new artist who has been working for years on a new medium and this is his first opportunity to present it to the world.
CROSSING THE LINE is a show and sale of new works by Byron who has had several careers and he is embarking on his third or fourth, its sort of hard to count. He started in California for thirty years as a well known and respected ceramicist. In fact, some of his work is in the Smithsonian. Then he retired but then he started over as a designer and then he retired. Then he started again as a teacher of design and then he retired. But then he started to paint and it led him in new directions that he is very excited about exploring and on it goes.
In his own words Byron says, "Crossing what line? That line, which both divides and joins and is often visible and invisible. A break that creates a division in a musical composition, the breath that punctuates a statement and the visible edge that takes the viewer from one space to another. A line, that says…”We now we have a new construct”. The composition shall now be realigned and create a new visual dance."
Byron will be on hand at the reception. It will be July 26 from 5:30 - 8:00. Byron is going to do a talk on his paintings so if you want to know what there is to know about crossing the line, what line or whose line is it anyways, drop down with a friend and engage in the dialogue. It should be very interesting. The show will hang until August 11. Here is a Youtube link to a video of Byron speaking and painting provided by ShawTV Okanagan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5zRjfPdeow
