Our Day With The Olympic Flame

Memories of 2 years ago when Blair and I were guests of Coca-Cola and honoured with carrying the Olympic Flame. The same flame that will light the cauldron in London hours from now.  I remember how emotional that day was and how thankful I was for the experience.  When I boarded the bus and they took the torch and cut the internal pipe that carried the butane, I was a little sad, and then came the speech. “Why would you ever want to relight it? There is only one Olympic flame and it’s the one that burned on your torch moments ago. It came from Greece and can’t be reproduced with a lighter. There is only one Olympic flame.”

The Olympics start hours from now. I work in a great industry of sport and can somewhat understand the excitement of the athletes and all those attending the games. I can tell you, I’m excited to be on the other side of a TV and just be a spectator, embracing the Olympic spirit.

Wherever you are in the Okanagan, British Columbia, Canada, or other parts of the world for the next 2 weeks, cheer on your country and enjoy the 2012 London Olympics. Raise your glass for a safe and secure Olympic Games.

Cheers,

Michael J
