Angelique Duffield runs Bright Spark Media and is a Social Media Strategist and Coach as well as a Photographer. She offers social media training, customized social media setup, social media strategy sessions, and commercial photography services.
We asked Angelique the questions below:
What is your name?
Angelique Duffield
Where do you work?
Bright Spark Media
Where can people find you or your business online?
http://BrightSparkMedia.ca
How do people connect with you on Linkedin?
http://ca.linkedin.com/in/angeliqueduffield
What is your Twitter account?
@AngeliqueDuff
What do you always find yourself saying?
Social Media is a marathon, not a sprint.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Lady Gaga
If you were to receive any existing public award, what award would you like to win?
Something that designates "Most improved".
If you could spend a day with any historical figure, who would you choose?
Merlin Britannicus (of King Arthur fame)
Who inspires you?
My husband - he will be swimming the English Channel in 2013 as part of a relay team from Kelowna
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
-Get a glider pilot's licence - It looks so peaceful without the sound of engines, and I love to fly.
-Be on Richard Branson's first low orbit space flight. So if anyone has a few hundred thousand dollars to spare, please let me know :)
-Visit Antarctica (before it gets exploited by research industry and mining, or over-run with tourists).
If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
If you could foresee a single day of your future in its entirety, what date would you select?
The day of my biggest accomplishment
What are you passionate about?
-Enjoying the outdoors in the Okanagan, in all seasons.
-Photography has been a passion of my for a long time. I got my diploma back in the film and darkroom days, and I think the digital era means the craft of photography is a dying art. There are still some great artists, but most are just shooters now. I was convinced I wanted to work for National Geographic, and I did do lot of travel photography for years, but I stumbled into wedding photography when we lived in England, and people photography is still a part of what I do today.
-Social media marketing is my other passion - so many businesses misuse it, underestimate its value, or write it off, but it is here to stay, and it's an effective business tool. I hate to see good products or services alienating their potential customers online. Small business owners and entrepreneurs can do it efficiently and effectively themselves - it's not about having a beautiful website/blog/facebook cover image - it's about connecting with their customers and creating value.
-I also would like to see better social media education in schools. I see a lot of fear around posting on the internet from parents, and lack of awareness of consequences from teens and even adults, especially when they are looking for a job.
What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
During our 6 week trip in Africa, we did a one day guided hike in KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa - the Amphitheatre area of the Drakensberg mountain range. The 10km hike was a challenge for me - all the people were super-fit, plus I'm afraid of heights. There was a big rock scramble to get to the plateau overlooking the waterfall, and then chain-ladders that dropped over the edge of the cliff, which had to navigate our way down to return. The scenery was incredible the entire route, and I succeeded in overcoming my fear (temporarily) to clamber down the 100ft of wobbly ladder.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Running my own photography business in England, getting a gold award for one of my wedding portraits, and having a series of articles and images published in Imagemaker Magazine alongside some of the best photographers in the world.
If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?
Marketing - how to be true to yourself and still make money.
I'd love to meet with Richard Branson, Chris Guillebeau, Chris Brogan, Danielle Laporte in an elevator.
Question for them: "If I gave you $500 to spend in any way to market your business, what would you do?"
Where is your favourite place to dine in Kelowna?
Quails' Gate - Old Vines Restaurant; but I love all the little independent cafes like Bliss Bakery and Marmalade Cat Cafe
What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Swimming in the lake - there are so many beaches, all with different personalities.
If I could change 1 thing about Kelowna, it would be:
More vibrant scene at the water's edge - it would be great if the new development in Kelowna (near Waterscapes) also added more boardwalk and waterside cafes/restaurants, not bars, but some cool local independent places with a good, chilled-out vibe.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Diversity of small businesses and a huge entrepreneurial spirit. OVES, Accelerate Okanagan, and Digital Okanagan are good examples of incubators for start-ups. There is a lot of support in the Okanagan community for entrepreneurs.
My choice for the Kelowna person of the day is:
Lori Welbourne - On a Brighter Note
www.loriwelbourne.com
Some general comments I would like to share are:
Lori has such a great heart, and throws herself 100% into any project. Her videos are funny, sometimes offbeat or sarcastic - but she has a point of view.
