Brooke Bachmeier has successfully managed the day team at Earls for a number of years, and she took the time to answer a few of our questions. It's great to see a local restaurant with a staff that is committed to giving an excellent customer experience. Not only does Earls have the best staff working for them, they also have a menu that is constantly being improved. Earls just came out with their new fall menu, and if you haven't had a chance to try their pumpkin pie, we suggest that you wait no longer!

Growing in popularity throughout the Okanagan-Continuing to be a pillar in the community for a place for residents to celebrate, reconnect, and relax.
Who do you consider to be a forerunner within your field?
The Fuller family who created the entire Earls and Joey concept are without a doubt forerunners in our field. They have created the perfect recipe (pardon the pun) for a fun, energetic, truly Canadian, successful business.
What 3 qualities do you feel that your business/organization exemplifies?
THE KITCHEN IS SOUL. The kitchen is the soul of every happy house, and the Earls house is no exception. From our President to our Front of House partners, every person on the team is seriously into great food.
FRESH FROM SCRATCH. Our menu inspiration starts in the pantry, with top quality ingredients at the peak of their freshness. We make all our breads and buns from scratch, in house, every morning. Our soups, sauces, and salad dressings are also made in our kitchens, using our own perfected recipes. Sure, it takes extra time, but we think it’s worth it.
TASTE THE DIFFERENCE. Why? We do it for our customers, because we know they can taste the difference. And we do it for ourselves, because quite frankly, there’s no greater thrill than watching our guests and listening to their contented sighs as they take that first unbelievably delicious bite.
What would you like to say to your employees/volunteers?
Thank you! We are all partners within the restaurant and not one position can execute successfully without the other. It is a true team environment here at Earls on Top and any of our successes are 100% due to our amazing employees.
How does your business/organization impact the community?
Earls takes great pride in being a part of the downtown business community of Kelowna. We feel as though we impact this community in many different ways, one of them being that we employ over 80 young Kelowna residents each year. These young people are taught many different lessons while working here ranging from problem solving, multi tasking, customer service, culinary techniques and overall organization. Theses are all tools that our employees can take into the work force when they become the future of Kelowna!
On a totally different note, we participate in numerous community events to "give back" to the community. Most notably is our partnership with the BC Children's Hospital. Through initiatives such as the Jeans Day campaign and our Christmas gift card campaigns we have been able to support the BC Children's Hospital with monetary gifts.
We have also been big supporters of the Movember movement. Last year we hosted a very successful Movember bake sale with 100% of the sales going towards prostate cancer research.
What is the best part of operating in Kelowna?
The amazing guests we get to serve each and every day! Our guest have to be some of the kindest, funniest and hungriest people around :) We have quite a few guests who come in 4-5 days a week and they feel like part of the Earls family. Kelowna is somewhat of a smaller community when compared to some of the other Earls locations and I think that lends itself to a bit of a "neighbourhood restaurant" feel.
I can't leave out that working on the patio in a Kelowna summer is one of the perks of the job too!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Having happy employees. Earls has been named to Canada's top 50 employers for the last 5 years and we are very very proud of that. We are so lucky to have such a great family style relationship with our employees-we have employees who return year after year (many of our employees are students) for the fun and happy environment we provide.
If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?
I would prefer to be trapped in an elevator with some of our restaurant guests - I love to pick their brain about what they would love to see happen in our restaurant. Our guests are the #1 people in our restaurant world and we love to make them happy!
What other businesses/organizations in Kelowna would you recommend to others?
All of our wonderful downtown businesses!
What is your favourite event in Kelowna?
Center of Gravity
If I could change 1 thing about Kelowna, it would be:
Nothing, this is a dream city to live and work in.
What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The people, the landscape, and the weather!
Some general comments I would like to share are:
As much as we love fantastic food, we also think that food is just the beginning. We love that flavour harmony that happens when you pair food with the right wine or beer. We love knowing that some cocktails are created for patios, and others simply taste cozy—liquid heaven with a group of friends and a plate of snackable appetizers. And we’re all about creating the perfect ambiance for you to relax and experience the pure pleasure of good food, good drink, good friends, and good times.
