Everyone’s been asking about the former Carmelle’s Restaurant site at 101-1836 Underhill Street (behind Skogies Orchard Park). Here’s the scoop! The restaurant is now called “Underhill Street Grill” and is owned and operated by Anita Thomas and Dan Gorman. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday. The restaurant is a “family home cooked meal type restaurant” with their signature dish being fish and chips. Dan is not new to the restaurant industry as he has operated several restaurants out of our province. The décor of the restaurant is virtually the same with pricing of items up to about $12.95. Call 762-6267.

Two of my favorite people are retiring at the end of the month. In no particular order (I thought I should make that perfectly clear) both Brad Field, Chief Technical Officer and Vice Chairman of Pacific Safety Products and Ron Rubadeau, Superintendent of School District #23 are throwing in the towel, so to speak. Brad made is very clear that he is not going fishing; he is only “thinking” about retirement at age 48; may look at politics again; is going to learn to cook (that didn’t come from Lori); is going to golf (I suggested golf lessons as I have golfed with him – only joking); and is going to fly more. Lori says he is “back to his old self now”.

After 29 years with the school district, Ron Rubadeau is not really retiring. He is going to work for his son, Devin who is one of Canada’s senior sailing coaches and head coach at the Central Okanagan Sailing Association. Ron is going to be a “sailing instructor” and as most of you know, he will be great at that. Ron’s wife Donna is still working at Rutland Elementary, so I imagine Ron is going to have to try and do the house-hold chores in-between sailing instruction. One thing some of you might not know is that Ron plays his string bass for local musicals and theatre groups and in the past 40 years has performed in more than 100 productions around the world. He’s way too talented.

After 15 years with Okanagan Insurance Services on Dilworth Drive, Sharon Ridinger has retired. To start off her retirement, she is going on a cross-country tour with hubby Bill in their 5th wheel.
