Rapidly growing coffee roaster, Cherry Hill Coffee Company is going in a totally new and positive direction with their rebranding. Owner Dave Biglow (along with his brother Jeff) was ecstatic to tell me that they have just hired James Caider, a former art director with Madhouse Creative to lead the brand roll out plan. James has had extensive experience in marketing and design, working with such global brands such as Bacardi and Smirnoff. Established in 1986, Cherry Hill now would like their new logo and streamline packaging materials to reflect their great product and continued success, with a contemporary flair image and keeping up with the times. Although, Cherry Hill is 95% a wholesale operation, the public can still purchase their specialty coffee and teas from their retail shop, showroom and roasting facility located at Unit #1 - 1404 Hunter Court. Their high-quality coffee beans are imported from all over the world, including Central and South America (Costa Rica), Africa and Indonesia. Call 861-4733.

At a recent International Art Conference in Anaheim, California, a program “Paint for Peace – “Pass it Forward” was announced. Local artist Pat Laurin (also of Arby’s) was selected as the first Canadian asked to paint a card for our Canadian Soldiers. The two piece card is made of wood to last; each injured Soldier will keep the card for a non-specific duration, sign his or her name on the back, then pass it forward to another injured Solider (much like the movie “Pay It Forward”). The card is only 5 inches by 7 inches but includes scenes that will be dear to their hearts no matter which part of Canada they are from. It depicts a scene encompassing our land and our home, from the West Coast to the East Coast. In the reflection on a wine decanter, stands a Soldier in uniform, deep in thought looking out across this great land, as in a far away place, he or she proudly fights “For the Love & Freedom of our Country.” It even includes a few clusters of Okanagan grapes. The card will first be sent to Wichita, Kansas where it will be photographed to be featured in an International Art Magazine before it finds its way to an injured Soldier overseas. Call her at 769-5017.

The Okanagan Jewish Community's annual golf tournament was a humongous success. This was the 10th Anniversary of the event and it was the largest ever. The Harvest, as usual, did a fabulous job and were even gracious enough, because of the large numbers, to let us park on their beautiful lawn. This year, a portion of the proceeds were donated to the United Way and there was also a novel twist in their community service. In lieu of the traditional golf gift that was given in the past to every golfer, a donation was made on behalf of each registrant to the United Way. The cheque will be presented at the annual United Way Kick-off Breakfast in September. I was lucky enough to be have been placed in a unique foursome; being myself and three gentlemen who were, at "most" times fairly gracious with the only woman on their team (ha!). You can imagine that I had to really hold my own with RCMP Superintendent Bill McKinnon, local well-known artist Alex Fong and chartered accountant Don Turri of McKay LLP. I guess that says it all! Mark your calendar for next year – you won’t want to miss this one.

Can you believe that Bear Creek is 25 years old and they celebrated with a 25th anniversary Parks Day Celebration.

TaylorMade Golf Quote of the Week – By Jon Kadin - Try this the next time you are struggling with your putting! When a player misses a putt, either their speed or direction is “off”. Finding the correct pace on your putts simply requires practice. Feel cannot be taught…however, if you are continually off-line with your putts try this simple pre-putt routine and I’m certain you will become more consistent. Once you have determined where you want the ball to go once it is struck…when you replace your ball on the green, line up the logo of your ball at your intended “target”. I say target because we are not always aiming at the hole. Most putters today have a line of some sort on them to aid you with your direction. Couple this with the logo of your ball and you now have two items reconfirming your direction. All of the guess work is gone and we are free to make a fluid, tense free stroke! (Jon Kadin is the head professional at Gallagher’s Canyon and Greg Murtland is the territory manager for TaylorMade)
