Last Saturday Superintendent Bill McKinnon arrested me at the Ramada Hotel and took me to Walmart to the “Free the Fuzz” event to raise money for B.C. Special Olympics. The event is hosted by the Kelowna RCMP Detachment. I was put in a “jail” on the Walmart parking lot entrance and proceeded to call friends to bail me out. Special thanks to friend MLA Sindi Hawkins for her help. She stayed right beside me, outside the jail and helped phone friends and colleagues for funds to get me out of jail. Together we raised $1,000 in about 40 minutes. And to top that off, Nigel Lark, publisher of the Kelowna Capital News donated another $1,000 to match the funds that Sindi and I raised. Thanks Capital News! We had a great time – even if I was in jail. I did get a “Get out of jail card” from Superintendent McKinnon some time ago, but I forgot to use it! The event was organized by Constable Julie Rattee, Constable Steve Holmes, Sgt. Terry McLachlan, Inspector Steve McVarnock who came from Vernon for the event and Constable Cheryl MacKinnon, who incidentally shaved her head when the total reached 25,000 and she still looks really cute. Councillor Norm Letnick is shaving his head, as the total raised was over $30,000. That will happen on Wednesday at noon at Walmart. Big thanks to Walmart store manager Sarah Pedersen. Hope all of you saw us on the roof of Walmart. It was a blast. Congrat’s to the winners of the Mayor’s Environmental Achievement Awards. TaylorMade Golf Tip of the Week – by Jason Laczkovics -The other day Maxine told me about a situation she had. She had hit her ball and it came to rest right at the base of a tree. This brings up the issue of what to do when you have an “unplayable lie.” If you deem your ball to be unplayable you have 3 options. You may… (a) play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played, or (b) you may drop a ball behind the point where the ball lay, keeping that point directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind that point the ball may be dropped, or (c) drop a ball within two club-lengths of the spot where the ball lay, but not nearer the hole. All three of these options have a penalty of one stroke. The only other thing to keep in mind is if you are in a bunker and declare it unplayable, you must stay and drop inside the bunker if you choose b or c. (Jason Laczkovics is the golf operations manager at The Okanagan Golf Club and Greg Murtland is the territory manager for TaylorMade) P.S. to Dr. Alex Canning – You’re now old enough to play with the real men in the master’s. (Alex, you know where that came from – not me).
