There’s a new 10 acre vineyard that has just been planted in Okanagan Centre at 1525 Camp Road that has a real neat story that goes with it. Decoa and Jeff Harder who was also the co-founder of Svfara Marine on Bailey Road (old Hiram Walker Plant), have recently started “ExNihilo Vineyards, located across from Arrowleaf Cellars, also on Camp Road. ExNihilo is a Latin term meaning “created out of nothing” and some might recall the name from a famous sculpture done by Frederick Hart. Stay tuned for more great news from this couple and their new venture.  Now, if you’re driving by you’ll know what going on!

The store has lots of everything, including a self service salad bar, wellness centre, upscale deli, produce, dairy, a large bulk foods department and meat, poultry and fish counter. Their intent is to bring healthy, quality choices to the area. Look for an update after the opening.

Gourmet Outfitters is a new high-end kitchenware store. The store is a division of wholesale operation Canadian Restaurant Supply Ltd. You can find everything from a large selection of wine glasses to espresso machines. There is a great selection of kitchen gadgets, dinnerware, cast iron cookware and knives. Everything you could want for your kitchen. One neat thing they carry is the “Big Green Egg” outdoor ceramic smoker and grill. I had never seen anything like it and manager Howard Sisson was happy to demonstrate as he had a roast cooking in it, right in front of the store. It looks like a huge green egg on metal legs. It’s versatile, efficient and easy to use in both summer and winter and you can use it to cook just about anything. It fires up in just ten minutes and you use charcoal to cook and unused charcoal can be re-used. Gourmet Outfitters is located at 100-2602 Enterprise Way in front of Canadian Restaurant Supply. It’s a bit tricky to find as the entrance to the building is behind the large wire fence on Enterprise Way. The building is in the process of being repainted with a new sign, but they are open for business now. As well, the public is now invited to shop in the wholesale side as well as the new retail side. Mike Otter is the manager. Call 979-1442.

Got a note from Norine Clinkard who also was successful on the L.A. Weight Loss Program. She lost 65 pounds and has kept it off for over two years. Now, that’s a real accomplishment. She said “she would never have had lost this weight or kept it off without the help of L.A. Weight Loss”. Sometimes, we all just need a little help!

Had a golf match with Charlie Styles, Terry Hyde and Derrick Johanneson at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club. I gave the guys a good run, but in the end I won the first nine, but overall we all lost to Terry and I lost the match by one stroke to Charlie. I guess it was that one “putt” that just missed. Actually it was several putts (ha!). Anyway, the guys said they would golf with me again, so I figured I should show I’m a good sport by writing my loss in the column.
