All the local golf courses are now open, most with some changes. There have been a couple of new additions to the Okanagan Golf Club team. Mark Lindsay is the new director of golf. Mark spent the last four years at The Harvest and will run the golf operations portion of the Okanagan Golf Club. Well-known golf guy, Todd Graham remains as assistant golf shop manager. Adrien Wright, formerly of Swaneset in Pitt Meadows is the new GBC GOLFBC Academy Head Professional. Sheena Campbell has joined their sales team as sales and events (golf) coordinator, joining Ryan Whitman, regional sales and marketing GOLFBC Okanagan. Sheena was formerly in the golf shop. Dore Blais is the sales and events coordinator (weddings and meetings). Dan Matheson is the general manager of the Okanagan Golf Club. Call 765-5955

Lots new at Gallagher’s Canyon. Leah Zimmermann is the new sales and event coordinator, offering a new wedding site that overlooks the canyon. Newly appointed Director of Instruction, Josh Fleming, who has been with Gallagher’s for three years, is ready to launch the GBC Academy at Gallagher’s Canyon with the help of accomplished teaching professional Tara Roden. Troy Knight, formerly of Red Deer is a new associate golf professional and Joe Clyne has also joined the team in the pro shop. Executive Chef Tim Buckley is returning. Pinnacle is offering a new pass, which includes unlimited play and unlimited use of their practice facility and also have brought back the very popular passport and punch card programs. Golf Kelowna (Kelowna Springs, Shadow Ridge and Shannon Lake) is the group’s 10th year offering the popular “Golf Kelowna” packages. They have overhauled and re-branded the very successful program by adding more benefits and increasing flexibility. Three new “Golf Kelowna Value Cards” replace the old 10, 20 and 40 round packs. All value cards retain familiar multi-course access, but now all cards can be used any time of day, and also include power cart, merchandise discounts and the ability to track usage on the internet. Kevin Houde is the new golf shop manager at Harvest. He spent the last three years at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club in Calgary. Rob Anderson is the new director of instruction and the Harvest has launched the “Rob Anderson Golf Academy”. Rob is well-known in Kelowna and has been with the Harvest since 1998. He has been golf shop manager, head professional and received three PGA and B.C. Awards. Tamara Graham is the sales and marketing manager and Gilles Dufort the general manager of The Harvest. Canadian PGA Instructor Tara Roden will be at both Urban Links Golf Training Centre on the Westside and the new GBC Golf Academy at Gallagher’s. She has gone into a partnership capacity with Urban Links, becoming part owner with Dave Schroeder and Bill Cunningham, being their head teaching professional as John Ferrier has decided to move to his own facility in Penticton. Kelowna’s newest, 18-hole championship golf course, The Club at Tower Ranch, named after rancher Stan Tower, located at the end of McCurdy Road (2455 McCurdy Rd. E.) will be opening for play mid June. The grand-opening will be July 11-13. Partners of the development are respected golf course builder, Aberdeen Golf Group; revered golf course architect, Thomas McBroom; world leader in destination resorts and planned communities, Intrawest and local home builder, Dilworth Homes. The pro-shop and clubhouse are nearing completion and shop inventory is arriving daily. The Aberdeen Dining Room has a fantastic view from the dining room and outdoor deck. Golf will end in November but the dining room doesn’t. The team at Tower Ranch is just as impressive as the course. Neil Schmidt, formerly of Predator Ridge and the Kelowna Golf & Country Club is the head golf professional. Sherry Lipp, COO has worked with organizations such as TBC Teletheatre, BCIT and BC Academic Health Council. Her expertise is in business development, start-ups and customer service. Brian Reilly is the food services director, opening more than 15 restaurants and bars in Canada and the US, six of which were self owned. Young entrepreneur, Carey Missler, a graduate of Kelowna’s Center for Arts and Technology’s Digital Film Program has launched DCD Productions. DCD specializes in all kinds of video production, including corporate marketing and training videos, internet applications, documentaries, small projects, sports videos and video editing. He has already worked on several large scale projects including ”The Union Movie” a documentary produced by Adam Scorgie which won several film festival awards and has just received a distribution deal for an upcoming DVD release. Missler has recently produced a video for business owner Trent Kitch of Saxx Underwear, which was recently on CBC’s top hit “The Dragon’s Den”. Ballet Kelowna has been named "Touring Company of the Year" by members of the BC Touring Council at the annual Pacific Contact Conference held in Vancouver. Ballet Kelowna also enjoyed being selected to showcase the talents of the Company's professional dancers performing diverse classic and contemporary repertoire for more than 300 delegates. They have also received their first touring grant from the Canada Council for the Arts for up to $25,000 and a B.C. 150 Years Grant of $10,000 to support the Spring 2008 Season Tour from Alberta throughout the B.C. Last week I wrote that Theresa Arsenault was appointed to the board of UBCO. She has also been appointed to the Board of UBC, the board that looks after both the Vancouver campus and the Kelowna campus, with a budget of over one billion dollars. Brad Bennett is the chair, so Kelowna now has four members on that UBC Board.

Yellow House Restaurant and Aesthetic Solutions are hosting an evening of live music at The Habitat at 248 Leon Ave. on Sat., April 19. Jason Mitchell from Vancouver and The Nero, all the way from Liverpool, England will be performing. Mitchell is a singer/songwriter who has a true passion for performing live.
