This week’s column is dedicated to Ralph Falkingham, A/COM RTD. RCMP who passed away April 13. Ralph was a person who, throughout his 35 years with the RCMP, was admired and respected by both his peers and the public. I will miss seeing him with all the guys at coffee. My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Lainey; son, Cst. Scott Falkingham, daughter Kelly Hampton, other family and his large circle of friends. After listening to Kelly at his funeral, I really feel “Ralph is now sitting on his own fence, feeling it was the right thing to do”.

Believe it or not, BBQ season is upon us. 78% of Canadians own a BBQ and 29% of all households use the BBQ each week. Canadians are becoming “seasonless barbequers” now grilling more than once per month from October to April. In saying this, there’s a super new seasoning product on the market by Club House (McCormick Canada) called “La Grille”. La Grille products have no artificial colours of flavours; have no MSG added: are Trans fat and gluten free and some also have no salt added. Flavours of the seasonings are Lemon & Herbs, Pork, Chipotle Mango, Vegetable, Sweet Chili & Peppers and Montreal Steak Spice. Did you know that Montreal Steak Spice is the #1 selling spice in Canada, out-selling black pepper in 2007? The company has also come out with two La Grille Marinades, Baja Citrus and Chipotle Pepper which flavour and tenderize. The seasonings are wonderful and are now available at all MarketPlace IGA’s. Dale McEwan is the local Key Account Executive, Grocery Division for Crombie Kennedy Nasmark Inc., who markets the La Grille line.
