Had an amazing experience at the new “Cabana Bar and Grille” at Lakeshore and Cook in Playa Del Sol. Owned and operated by the cabana boys, Ned Bell (celebrated Canadian Chef and Food Network Host) and experienced restaurateur Jay Blackford, the restaurant has a casual but elegant atmosphere with a separate bar/lounge and pizza bar, along with the main dining area. The large patio also has a comfortable bar/lounge section and the opposite side has tables for dining. They also offer a great take-out menu with a huge selection including desserts. There is plenty of covered parking allotted for the restaurant located right in Playa Del Sol. Just drive through the white garage doors off Cook (the doors open automatically-no code needed) and find a spot. Our table shared a variety of beautifully presented menu items so that we could taste a little bit of everything. All were superb, including appies of pan seared Dungeness crab cakes, forno baked cheese flatbread and pan seared jumbo prawns. My main course of West Coast Paella was exceptional and my sister Tracy (who’s a salmon fanatic) said her West Coast steelhead salmon was the best she had ever tasted. If that wasn’t enough the creamsicle semi-freddo dessert was delicious. Do I have to say more? Call 763-1955.

TaylorMade Golf Tip of the Week by Mark Lindsay - Early season putting woes! The short game is always the last part of your game to return to midseason form. Most amateur players really struggle with speed when they putt. They “almost” go in, but are either hit too hard or too short. The next putt is usually missed again and the ball is putted back and forth. Worrying about aim when putting is not as important if you are always short or long. Concentrating on speed instead of direction will enable you to putt more consistently and reading greens will be easier. The amount of break that a putt has is determined by how hard the putt is struck. If you want to play more break you need to hit the putt softer, harder will reduce break. Practice this. Stand in the middle of the green. Hit putts facing in different directions, trying to putt as close to the fringe as possible. You will have some up hill, down hill and side hill putts. Concentrate on the speed, not making the putts. Your putting will improve immediately. (Mark Lindsay is the Director of Golf at the Okanagan Golf Club (lindsay@golfbc.com) and Greg Murtland is the Territory Manager for TaylorMade (greg.murtland@tmag.com).??

P.S. to Westside Mayor Rosalind Neis – Thanks for being such a good sport about the “cake.”

Birthdays of the week – Diane Lazauskas, Diane’s Fine Jewellery in the Ramada Hotel (June 9); Jeanne Crandall (June 10); Ron Mattiussi, City of Kelowna (May 25).???
