“Industry Restaurant and Lounge” has just opened in The Prestige Inn at 1675 Abbott Street. The new restaurant, which has been completely renovated is owned and operated by four young well-known individuals in the food and beverage “industry” hence the new name. Owners Lucky Ahluwalia (Sindi Hawkins brother), Dave Simpson, Tyler Tronnes and Hanna Rae have also raised the bar by hiring Shawn Kisling as their chef and server Jill Young both formerly of Ric’s. The unique thing about Industry is that both Dave and Tyler are “Flair Bartenders” (Extreme Bartenders) who have appeared on the Rachael Ray Daytime Talk Show and were recently at the Masters in Augusta bartending and performing for the golfers, celebrities and VIP’s. If you have ever seen the Tom Cruise movie “Cocktail” let me tell you that Tom has nothing on these two young men. They are absolutely amazing and seeing them is a real experience. They even ignite over proof rum creating a “back draft”. The menu is exceptional, offering a wide range of items, including starters of Deconstructed Stew, Duck Confit Spring Roll or Citrus Pods; some main courses include Basa and Chips (peppered Guinness basa), Crown Royal Smoked Ribs, Mojo Lamb and Wild Mushroom and Leek Stuffed Chicken. They also offer a superb breakfast menu and along with their indoor seating have a lovely patio. If you are looking for Intrigue, Infuse, Indulge and Inspire, drop into Industry and “Injoy” seven days a week. Call 860-7900 for reservations or to find out when Tyler and Dave are bartending.

Guess what everyone? I’m taking “Acting Lessons”. Actually, they are Improv Lessons but “acting” sounds so much more sophisticated (Ha!). If you think that’s funny, what’s even more hilarious is that Tarzan Dan Freeman of 99.9 Sun FM is also in the class, along with thirteen wonderful and fun people. A couple of weeks ago Dan had me acting like a chicken and I even got to use some of my animal calls, all to my friends astonishment and disbelief. The next week I got him back by having to pretend I was him. You should have seen that one. Our teacher is professional actor and improve comedian Mark Reinelt of Improv Comedy Sketch Entertainers, along with Conrad Burek and Jay Martens. They are performing a live show, The Swellegant Awards” that has closing credits in Penticton at The Cleland Community Theatre at 8pm on June 21. TaylorMade Golf Tip of the Week by Mark Lindsay – Last week I wrote about a drill to help your putting. Here is another one that you can do on the practice green. Try the ladder drill. Take five or six balls and place them in a line starting about 4-5 feet from the hole. Place the next few balls at 10, 15, 20 and 25 feet. Try and roll each ball as close to the hole as you can. Concentrate on hitting the balls the correct speed and not on making the putts. Practice this drill and your putting will improve immediately. (Mark Lindsay is the Director of Golf at the Okanagan Golf Club (lindsay@golfbc.com) and Greg Murtland is the Territory Manager for TaylorMade (greg.murtland@tmag.com).
