Congratulations to Senator Ross Fitzpatrick on receiving the distinguished award “Freedom of the City” from The City of Kelowna, presented by Mayor Sharon Shepherd at the senator’s Tribute Dinner this past Saturday evening. This special honour has only been given to fifteen recipients since 1943 and must have the unanimous vote of City Council. There will be an official ceremony to commemorate the event at the Monday, May 26th City Council meeting.? ?????

The Kelowna International Airport is officially opening the newly expanded departure area to the public today. It includes a satellite Kelowna Art Gallery in the new well-wishing area, the pre-board screening area and the expanded departures lounge that will seat 120 addition passengers. The departures lounge also features a children's play area, locally-focused specialty wine store and a 79 seat full-service White Spot Restaurant.

Interior Savings Credit Union re-elected Rolli Cacchioni and Doug Findlater for a three year term. Rolli Cacchioni was then elected vice-chair of the Board.

Over the past two weeks 14,000 people have visited the www.supremewebmakeover.com website from 57 countries to cast their vote for which Okanagan non-profit organization should win the free $10,000 website, hosted by Twin Creek Media Inc. S/Sgt. Duncan Dixon is the new officer in charge of the area known as "Kelowna Rural" operating out of the Westside. Presently working in the city as a watch commander, he will start his new position on May 26, replacing S/Sgt. Shawn Wylie who is retiring on June 4.

Met Jim Larsen, the new manager of London Drugs. Jim relocated from Kamloops and has been with the company for 19 years. The store is open, all the renovations are complete and the 10,000 sq. ft. addition is phenomenal. They have hugely expanded their high-tech area which includes cameras, computers and audio visual equipment. The new modern pharmacy now has a consultation room, along with consultation booths and the larger, bright cosmetic department is in full swing. The Westbank London Drugs is due to open in August. Cindy Mallach is a certified dental assistant for people and also a certified canine oral hygiene specialist for dogs. Corie Griffiths of the EDC, Central Okanagan has been appointed to the 2008 Board of Directors of the Economic Development Association of B.C.

The EDC was the recipient of the Community Project Award for its “Skills Recruitment – Foreign Attraction Program” presented by the Economic Development Assoc. of B.C. The Rotary Club of Kelowna is celebrating their 80th Anniversary on May 22. The club is working in partnership with the City of Kelowna to plant 80 trees in the south slopes area (site of Okanagan Mountain Park fire). Members of the environment committee, along with President Michael Loewen will be joining Mayor Sharon Shepherd on May 21 for the ceremony. The public is invited.

Jan Cioe, Associate Professor Psychology has been selected to receive UBC Okanagan’s Award for Teaching Excellence and Innovation for 2007/08 on June 6 and will now join the UBC Okanagan Academy of Teaching Excellence.

After 11 years at the helm of Kelowna's Celebration Singers, artistic director Katherine van Kampen is leaving Kelowna and saying farewell with a high energy musical tribute to the fabulous fifties at the Mary Irwin Theater on May 23/24 at 8pm. The Okanagan Chef's Assoc. is hosting their 25th Annual Family BBQ on June 1 from 11am-5pm at the Lions Easter Seal Camp at 1790 Davidson Road in Lake Country.
