Canes GM Don Waddell called the 20-year-old a “physical defenceman” who uses his size well.
“He made great strides in his offensive game this season, and we think he’s ready to continue his development at the professional level.”
The Quebec native scored six times and added 12 assists during 36 regular season games for West Kelowna, adding two goals and nine helpers in 11 playoff games.
He then moved on to the NCAA, where he joined the Quinnipiac Bobcats just in time to help the school win its first national title ever.
Legault was selected in the fifth round, 139th overall, by Carolina in the 2023 NHL entry draft, then played what we now know to be his final season at Quinnipiac University this past year.
Signing the deal with Carolina means his NCAA career is over after two seasons and Legault will now try to climb the professional ranks in the Hurricanes system.
